Pacific Portraits: Rights. Choices. Opportunities.

A stunning photo book with beautiful photos has been created by Family Planning International to mark the occasion of the world population reaching 7 billion.

Pacific Portraits: Rights. Choices. Opportunities highlights some of the sexual and reproductive health choices individuals in the Pacific have made. It looks at the human stories behind sexual and reproductive health and rights statistics.

Stunning portraits accompany the stories emphasising that it is individuals who face these challenges, not statistics.

The photos and stories show us the complex challenges many people face to enjoy sexual and reproductive rights.

"I have lived a long life. I was pregant nine times and I have four children today. My husband died some twenty years ago and I have lived by myself since. I have never used a condom but I have heard about them."

"I got married and had children very late compared to my sisters. But I did get married finally and now I have two children...I don't want to have any more children...I use injection as a form of contraception. My husband is also a teacher and I know he doesn't want to have any more children."

"I love children and I enjoy cooking for my children. I am Catholic and according to my faith we have as many children as God gives us. You can't control these things anyway. It's God that makes the decision for you. I have three children now - it would be great to have one more."

The photo book was launched on Friday 28 October at the New Zealand Beehive at a function hosted by Family Planning International.
