WRAP installation at Parliament - 8 December 2010
In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women, Family Planning International joined forces with a number of partner organisations. WRAP (Women’s Rights and Advocacy in the Pacific) is an Aotearoa NZ based network of organisations that promote and work on the rights of women in the Pacific.

Black dresses were hung up on washing lines outside Parliament on 8 December 2010 to visually represent the number of women in the Pacific Islands who suffer some of the highest rates of sexual and gender-based violence in the world.
Members of Parliament were invited to attend and stand in solidarity with women in the Pacific.
Fifteen MPs from the Greens, National and Labour came to support the cause and were asked to remove some of the black dresses and replace them with colourful ones to show their shared desire to end this fundamental human rights violation.

Five women die every day in our Pacific neighbourhood from almost entirely preventable problems in pregnancy and childbirth.
To raise awareness of this tragedy Family Planning International in association with Radio Active hosted the 'Safe and Sound' concert on 22 October at the San Francisco Bathhouse in Wellington.
Fabulous local women artists, Lisa Tomlins, Tesa Rain, Iva Lamkum, Bella Kalolo and DJ Ayesha, performed to a great crowd who were treated to an amazing night of music. And all for a great cause.
Check out the news coverage with footage from the show.
On 17 November 2008, the annual United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) State of World Population report was launched. Family Planning International hosted the New Zealand launch of the report, as it has done since 2000.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is an international campaign originating from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute held in 1991. Participants chose the dates 25 November (International Day Against Violence Against Women) and 10 December (International Human Rights Day) in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights.
1 December is World AIDS Day, an international day of coordinated action on HIV and AIDS. The day emerged from a call by the World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention in January 1988 to strengthen communication and understanding on HIV and AIDS. Family Planning International works with a group of New Zealand organisations to mark World AIDS Day.

On 10 December, Family Planning International joined other civil society organisations and members of the public in Wellington, New Zealand, to mark International Human Rights Day. We had a busy information stall highlighting sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Pacific and the work we do.
11 July is World Population Day, a day marked annually around the world to raise awareness and action on population issues. The 2008 World Population Day reaffirmed the right of people to plan their families.
