Here’s a List of Activities That’ll Brighten Up Your Home!

Activities at home are a great way to build a foundation of growth, communication, and trust between parents and their kids. It is understandable that devoting your complete time and attention is not always possible with tough work schedules. So the best way to make up for it is to make sure that the time you do spend with your child is positive, affirmative, and pays attention to your child’s thoughts, ideas, and needs. Even if you’re an at-home parent, your child may get mad at you several times a day if you don’t allow them to do something. But activity time is for brushing that anger away and communicating the teachings and values whilst in a wholesome and active environment so that your child does not feel like they’re being suppressed. As you can see, there are a lot of underlying uses of activity time. Being a parent, you can also utilize this time to relax and rejuvenate whilst supervising some of the activities instead of actively participating in them. This will also help build confidence and a sense of accomplishment for your child. So, let’s be sure to make things fun for the kids and the fam!

  • Make gummy bears! Totally DIY: Who doesn’t love gummy bears? Snack away with your kids with DIY gummy bears. All you need is a packet of Jell-O, 1 tbsp gelatine, half a cup of water, and moulds (preferably the gummy bear shaped ones). You’ll need is to heat the water in a pan and add the jell-o packet along with the gelatine. Keep mixing till the two dissolve completely, then turn off the heat. Now that your mixture is ready, all you need to do is allow it to set. So take the dropper and pour the warm mixture in the mould carefully. Handling the warm jell-o requires supervision, please be mindful of that. Let it sit in the refrigerator for 45mins and allow it to solidify. Once the jell-o is set, your gummy bears are ready to be devoured! Store them in an airtight bag or container. They stay well up to a week easily.
  • If you have toddlers, the next activity will be perfect for you. Play hide and seek indoors! It may seem silly or even challenging due to space constraints. But there is nothing cuter than a child’s laugh when they find someone hiding under a sheet! It’s the perfect game for a lazy afternoon or some before bedtime fun. You can also get creative and turn it into a treasure hunt for your kid to make things even more interesting. If you have stairs at home, please remember to watch your child carefully to avoid any accidents.
  • You don’t need Halloween or come-as-you-like for an excuse to dress up; just dress up for fun and maybe have a fancy dinner, or make-believe tea party, or rock concert- anything that your child wants! You can let your kid choose your outfit. You could be Patrick the deliveryman one day and count Dracula the next. This is an amazing way to stimulate your child’s imagination and build the trust that you’ll support them in their quirky endeavours.
  • Plan a garden! It can be an indoor set up of small plants, or a full lawn with a kitchen garden and flowerbeds. Appreciating and connecting with nature leads to holistic development for the child. They will also learn to take care of objects, understand the importance of nurturing. Some plants might die, flowers will wither away, paving a solid yet safe way for your child to learn and accept the cycle of life. This will prepare them for the future losses they may face.
  • Conduct easy experiments and unleash the inner scientist! Making a lava lamp is the easiest experiment to become a rock star parent in your child’s eyes. The things you’ll need are tap water, clear glass, mineral or vegetable oil, alka-seltzer tablets, and food colouring.

First, you need to fill your glass with tap water, about a quarter full. Then add quite a few drops of food colouring. Pour the oil and fill the glass, not to the brim. Break an alka-seltzer tablet and drop it in the glass. Take a flashlight, place it below the glass, and there you have a lava lamp! These easy-breezy activities will definitely light up your house with wholesomeness and laughter. Have fun!
